Robbers "saussaged" a victim

Three masked men forced their way into a house in Montauban where they tied up the occupant with ropes, using a technique called "saucissonage", which we would have thought was wrapping feet and hands or using cling film (though perhaps readers have other meanings?).
They managed to find 15000 euros hidden in a box in the loft, but crashed the getaway car a few hundred metres further away, leaving enough clues for the gendarmes to track them down and arrest them.
Apart from the "technique" one wonders how the "unlucky" thieves happened on the substantial sum. It seems likely that the victim had let it be known, or perhaps workmen or surveyors had spotted it and passed on the information. Even though banks will barely pay more interest than keeping cash in the attic, it is probably more prudent.
