Bird flu - new measures in force

Today (Monday 18th April) sees the introduction of more measures to combat the outbreak of grippe aviaire (bird flu) in our departments. 18 southwest departments are concerned, including all of Tagland.
It is now forbidden to keep any birds in the open air until 16th May, during which time all ducks and geese must be destroyed, those undergoing gavage may continue until the process is complete  - and this includes private owners with a few geese or ducks. No new birds are to be brought into the departments. With no ducks or geese left living the elevages will be disinfected.
Private owners are not required to destroy their birds, but they must be kept either inside or in a secure enclosure, measures which also apply to hens and guinea fowl.
New rules affecting professional elevages will be brought in after 1st July
