Gosh, great excitement with kestrels today.

Yesterday and all morning we have had a kestrel in and out of the hole. Malc said do not put it on TAG because if the birds hear about it they will go!
We have been checking back through the archives to see when they start nesting. We have found a photo from June 2006 where little birds are peeping out and that was before we had the walls of that house jointed.
June 2006, before the wall was pointed and before Malc got a decent camera.

The gite is empty at the moment so all is quiet and calm, so it may happen. The bird is flying past the window every 5 or ten minutes today.
In the archives we have had birds fledging as late as the middle of July.
One wonders why they have not visited for the past few weeks, but I cannot tell you enough how excited we are.
From us being up here they have nested 6 years out of the eight. One year we were pointing the wall and left the nest holes. Two years ago they were chased off by masses of jackdaws. This year we thought the gite being rented with the fire on had put them off... but I think we were wrong.
Last week I took down the hide which admittedly had partly blown down, but could have been repaired.
Prepare yourselves for kestrel news and pictures and when we are sure they are nesting, a welcome goes out to photographers.
