What traditions does "Occitanie" mean?

The new region Occitanie, covering the old Midi Pyrenees and Languedoc Roussillon regions, has several distinctive traditions.
We came up with cassoulet, petanque, even village fetes. But in  a survey in the region the number one tradition was said to be rugby. Odd that a game invented in England should be so relevant in this so French region. But who said "pigeon shooting" was the most representative tradition of the region? (apparently 1% of the respondents). Even "gavage" must be more representative - all that foie gras. One imagines that the respondents' own interests must influence their choice, but when asked what is most representative of Occitanie surely petanque would outweigh bull fighting.
