August was the warmest month the world has known since records started in 1880. In fact six of the first eight months of 2015 were records. Meteorologists attribute this to El Nino, the warm current in the Pacific being further north than usual. Here in France the 3 months of summer were warmer than average largely due to the very hot weather in July. August was nearer than average, but the few wet days were exceptional. We felt that we had had the hottest summer since 2003, without attaining that year's extremes.
