Faux amis

Hi Val and Malc
I like to think my French is quite competent, but I was really caught out by this one. I wanted to serve to my guests those individual-sized chickens which in the UK are called poussins. Perfectly good French word, thinks I. So I go along to Leclerc and politely ask for poussins, to which I get a mystified response. When I explain I want to cook them, mystification turns to shock horror. For why? Poussins in French are fluffy little yellow chicks that decorate Easter eggs. What I wanted are coquelet. The butcher in Leclerc now thinks the Brits are totally barbaric.
You have been warned!
