Talking to friends who live about 10 kms from us in a direct line across the valley, they also got up at 3 am to find out what the smell of burning wood was. As with us they thought at first it might be someone barbecuing locally but as the wood smoke smell thickened it was obvious there was a serious blaze somewhere to the West of us all. We are all surprised no one has reported where the fire was. The smell was still hanging around yesterday morning.
