Today sees the opening of 3kms of tramway in la ville rose, bringing the trams into the city centre for the first time since 1957. Part of an ambitious public transport scheme linking trams and metro it is hoped to move more commuters out of their cars. Opponents say it will simply cause more traffic jams (bouchons) - as if Toulouse didn't have enough.
Small footnote very French - there is a threat of a strike today postponing the opening...
