The massive clock of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Rodez has not sounded the hours since 1952, falling into disrepair and neglect. The enormous face and hands have been restored and the clock mechanism has been repaired by a specialist restorer of monumental clocks, Hubert Bresson. Paid for by the association Amis de la Cathedrale, the clock will be started up again this week. As it is installed 40 metres above ground level the clock face and the escapement are massive in order to be seen and heard. The cathedral clock is the only one of its type in Rodez.
