This Syrian migrant did OK

Steve Jobs c Banksy "Son of a Syrian migrant"
The British artist Banksy has been at work in and around Calais, including the "Jungle". In the port he shows a boy gazing at the horizon with a vulture perched on his telescope; in the town he has depicted a sinking migrant boat with the caption "We are NOT all in the same boat" - pace George Osborne and in the Jungle he has shown Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, whose father was a Syrian migrant from Homs in the 1950s.

Our story yesterday about Chloe who brought clothes reminded us that the reports from people who have been to Calais and worked with the refugees in the camps are quite at odds with some of the lurid reports being published in the press. Chloe is not a starry-eyed woolly liberal "do-gooder" (shame that doing good is a term of approbation) but a level headed young woman who was moved by the plight of the people there and went to help. Those readers whose opinions are based on the press reports, especially the Mail, Express, Telegraph et al would do well to talk to those local people who have been there; Laura and Sid, Caroline, Mimi and Chloe. It is hard to change entrenched beliefs, but surely listening to eye-witness accounts first hand must be a better way of informing yourself than biased media pandering to prejudices and racial hatred.
