Spanghero to throw in the towel?*

In a brave effort to rescue the firm he and his brother established in 1970 ex-French rugby international Laurent Spanghero took control of the Castelnaudary company in July last year. The firm had been rocked by the "horsemeat" scandal and was closed by the judiciary threatening the 350 jobs in the town.
But less than a year later he has filed for bankruptcy, citing difficulties of finance as the main problem. The court in Perpignan has allowed 6 months to try to find a buyer and M Spanghero is confident that with the help of the banks the firm, now called La Laraugaise, will be able to continue and safeguard its 100 employees.
* the French say "jeter l'éponge" - throw in the sponge - both boxing metaphors I imagine.
