Dear Val,
We were chatting the other evening to a local guy who sometimes supplies us with logs. He was telling us that as from next year, only authorised people will be allowed to cut down trees and cut up fallen branches. No more your local man making a few bob. This is because France wants to get people to use the pellets which are sold in shops and which the government collects a tax on. So, stock up your wood now – apparently prices are good because of less demand due to the mild Winter.
I must say that this is all heresay, I have not confirmed it in any way.
Also if ‘Les Tonys’ come to your village, give yourself a treat and go and see them. A touring family of acrobats, contortionists, a wire haired terrier called Lucky, a young girl (“ Ladies and Gentlemen, the LOVELY LYDIA”) doing all sorts of things with hula hoops (she only dropped them twice), a clown (well we won’t dwell on that ) and altogether a lovely set of people in, if slightly faded, sparkly outfits. Really worth it.
