Malc and I clearly remember the Presidential election in 2002. We had been away doing a book fair in New York, we had asked our neighbour at the Presbytere to water our plants whilst we were away.We gave him a few bob as they needed the money. We arrived back and had bought him a cap with New York on. He was youngish and had learning difficulties. He greeted us with Jean Marie Le Pen was going to win the Presidency, he had done exceptionally well in the first round. He assumed that we would be sent home, so had not bothered with watering the plants. He still got the present, but we remember it so well.
It had been hot and the plants had died.
This was also before we had pets! thank heavens he had not been entrusted with their care.
