Napoleon 1792 -1821

"Perhaps more than any other single French person Napoleon, left his mark on France and determined to no small extent what it is today. He changed the face and destiny not only of France but of much of the world. His original goal was the ''rayonnement'' [ shining light] of French culture expressed in the ideals of the Revolution and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. He reorganised the French administrative legal system [ The Napoleonic Code] and centralised the government and the economy. He supported Fine and performing arts as well as scientific and historical research."
Taken from ''Au Contraire'' by G. Asselin and Ruth Mastron.
I have just said to Malcolm, not such a bad chap really Napoleon to which Malc demurred. "He was a Dictator, he made himself Emperor. It is like saying Hitler wanted peace, Napoleon wanted piece, a piece of Austria, a piece of Egypt, a piece of Poland. etc. etc". Back to the drawing board on this one Val, more research on Napoleon needed I think.
