A follow up to Genevieve Bonnefoi

Hi Val
I am moved to read she has gone. I can add to this story. She bought the converted chapel in the small square beside the Maison du Gouverneur in Najac  in the mid 50s and invited Parisian artist friends down to stay. She was the very first person to discover the great beauty of Najac. The painter Karskaya came and fell in love with the place and shortly after (in 1959) bought La Tourette, the Maison du Sénéchal up the hill. Many then followed. At the time she was the art critic of Le Monde newspaper and highly respected. I knew her from the age of 13 (mine) and was fascinated and awed by her enthusiasm and brilliance. It was a salon around her and you could learn a lot just being in her company. She stayed with us in London when she was selling a Brancusi sculpture she owned, at auction, to raise the money to buy Beaulieu! It was later, around 1962. She remained as high powered as you could imagine right to the end. Full of passion about art and its mission for humanity. What a lot she achieved! A wonderful person.....
