Cannes Film Festival

Scene from the trailer of "Les fantomes d'Ismael"
The world's premier celebration of cinema opens its 70th edition today, with a showing of "Les Fantomes d'Ismael", the latest by director Arnaud Desplechins, starring Marion Cotillard and Charlotte Gainsbourg. This film is not actually in the competition, the jury of which is presided by Pedro Almodovar.
Never without controversy, this time it is whether two films made by Netflix for showing on TV and internet, but not being released into cinemas should be included in the Festival.
Under high security this year a host of stars and directors will be in Cannes to mount the famous red carpet and recount their experiences of the last 70 years of the glamorous event.
