President Hollande will quit the Elysee Palace today and hand over the reins of office to Emmanuel Macron. The ceremony, transmitted live on France 2 TV from 10h this morning, takes place in the Elysee and the new President will parade in the Champs Elysees at midday.

The group of French people we had lunch with yesterday were largely Melenchonistes and wondered whether we were about to go "en marche arriere" under Macron.
