Recent years in France have been mired by financial scandals: Jerome Cahuzac; Sarkozy; Bettencourt and now Fillon. Yesterday Serge Dassault, a senator and chief executive of Dassault Aerospace was convicted of tax evasion on a massive scale. The group is one of the most important defence suppliers and Dassault, now 91 years of age is accused of sheltering up to 31 million euros in off-shore accounts and omitting 12 million euros from his returns.
The court fined him 2 million euros and banned him from office for five years, saying he was spared prison due to his age.
