Unknown to the public until two years go, Emmanuel Macron, 39, a clean-cut former investment banker who has never held elected office, now stands a distinct chance of becoming France's next president.
When he announced his decision to run as an independent in November, promising to lead a people’s “democratic revolution” against a “vacuous” political system, detractors on the Right and Left predicted his campaign would "burst like a bubble" of Socialist champagne.
Yet his political star is showing no signs of waning, buoyed by a young start-up movement called En Marche! (On The Move).
