Thomas blasts off today

Readers from the UK will remember the excitement caused by the space journey earlier this year of Major Tim Peake and on Thursday 17th November a Toulouse man Thomas Pesquet will make the same journey to the International Space Agency.
Educated at Toulouse's prestigious "Supaero" - the Institute for Aeronautical and Space Studies, Thomas is a fighter pilot chosen from 8400 applicants to be France's 11th astronaut, though the first for 8 years.
The public is invited to the Cité d'Espace from 17h on Thursday for a free evening to include access to the Cité's usual attraction, plus live coverage, with many experts on hand, of the blast-off at 21h20 from Baikonur. Thomas will carry out various experiments for the European Space Agency and other universities, plus linking live with children from various schools throughout France.
