Another loss to the music world (as well as Tavener) which passed almost without comment this week is the final closing of Pleyel the French piano factory.
No other piano would find place in the salons of the rich and fashionable in C19 Paris. Listz and Chopin would play nothing else.
In 1838 Chopin took his Pleyel on holiday with him to visit George Sand on the island of Mallorca. Cor it's bad enough taking a fiddle on planes nowadays let alone a grand piano.Charles
