Tarn and Garonne is the main producer of France's favourite fruit. On average we consume 18kgs each per annum, and this year looks like a bumper crop. Local producers were able to start picking a few weeks early as the hot sunny weather ripened up the crops. But with pickers needed to gather 1500 kilos per day there is a severe shortage of seasonal workers. It is reckoned that about 500 extra jobs will be available over the next three months.
