The planet changing

Arnaud Reynaud, researcher at INRA Toulouse, confirms the changes due to global warming. "Agriculture is the sector most affected by periods of drought." Cereal growers are well aware of that and are abandoning progressively the sowing of maize in favour of sorghum.. Maize still holds sway especially in Aquitaine, but needing over 2000 cubic metres of water per hectare its cultivation has reduced by 12 % in Midi-Pyrénées, -10 % in Aquitaine in recent years. Sorghum needs 40 % less water than maize.
As for wine the effects of a warmer climate will give sweeter wines with a different composition. "Bound by out-dated systems of appellation, the vines and wines of the old Europe must choose between evolution or disappearance" according to a recent book called "Wines under threat" (Buchet/Chastel).World wine production will see a different map, but France will be affected with most of the northern countries
