On Sunday morning (18th May) when driving down to the village we were surprised to see a large number of chasseurs with their white vans and orange hats and hi-vis jackets. At least 20 of the chaps were stationed along the road sides and as it's not the season we asked what was up. "Battue aux renards" was the reply. It is true that some locals have been losing quite a lot of hens to the wily fox - though Penny and Black Peck have escaped so far. But we don't know if the battue was successful and today driving down to the village there sitting in the middle of a newly mown field was renard him (or her) self.
As the photographer was driving a quick stop was called for, a scramble in the back seat for the camera, no time to focus or even frame the shot - so just a quick glimpse of the culprit as he crossed the road.
