Politicians popularity

G'day Val - I've reverted to my mother tongue today

Re the above posting about Hollande's drop in the polls - It's futile to accurately gauge the popularity, or otherwise, of politicians simply based on the result of one or more polls. In this day and age, with the power of social media, the height of a persons profile and conversely the fall of their opponents is largely determined by the efficiency of their policy officer or communications manager in working the technology. It's further influenced by the print media - we've all seen instances of campaigns being waged by newspaper moguls/editors. The only real poll is taken at election day. Until then it's all manipulation of popular opinion - people read it and people believe it. You need to go a long way these days to find sound, healthy debate of the facts on most matters. That's why I love your blog. Keep speaking out Val, irrespective of agreement or otherwise. We need more of it in this world.
