France, the world's favourite destination

According to a study carried out by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, France is the world’s favourite holiday destination. Some 83 million people visited the country in 2012, beating the previous record of 81.4 million foreign visitors in 2011.

France received 16 million more visitors than the USA in second place, with China, Spain and Italy completing the top five most popular destinations.
The UK was in eighth place with 29.3 million visitors, while Paris was the third most visited city behind Bangkok and London.
