A death at Mas del Sol

Poor Henny,  or was it Penny, is no more. I went to clean out the henhouse this morning and thought one hen was sleeping peacefully, she was but it was a sleep she will not awake from. I thought she was a bit floppy yesterday, so whatever malady ailed her I hope it does not affect the other hen. All a bit chaotic as I discovered her, Malc had gone to Villefranche to get parts for the computer affected by the storm. Walter and Renata had found a snake in their bedroom and needed snake catching implements. The Dutch neighbour up the road has lost all her phone connections and computer links with the storm so needed me to find the code to log on and use our computer. We have  men mixing the cement for the floor of the donkey hut and they did not want Bonny leaving footprints everywhere. All  in all I have had half an hour of chaos.
Sitting down now with a cup of tea I can reflect what a good two years Henny as had, total freedom wandering the grounds, croissants avec beurre from the renters, and good companionship from Penny
Rest in peace dear  Henny, your egg producing capabilities will be remembered with pleasure.
I wonder what you do with a dead hen? normally the fox takes them away.

Hi Val,
So sorry to hear your sad news about you hen. I know some people would laugh at us, but I love my chickens and find it really sad when any of them die. If you're thinking about company for your remaining hen (and they do prefer to live with other chickens rather by themselves) then Glynis told me that there's a specialist chicken fair that will be running for 3 days this month in Montauban, on the 4th, 5th and 6th October, where there will be lots of different breeds to choose from. I want to go but John has told me that at 16 chickens, we have enough!
