When you have dogs you get talking to all sorts of people when out on your walks. Yesterday we met a fellow " golden" owner down on the river banks. A French man and his son of about nine, we talked of the pleasure of dog owning as our three romped about together doing something we call " silly running" One dog runs round the other daring to be caught, it always makes us smile.
We got talking about pets generally and we mentioned our menagerie. The pair lived up at Lacapelle Segalar up above Laguepie. They lived in very richly farmed areas and said their two ponies and successive four cats had all died from a malady which the vet put down to pesticides used in the fields around their house. The man was hoping his dog would be OK but he had no plans to buy more ponies or cats for his young son, as he felt they might all go the same way.
I hope in the long term they do not find that the young son has been affected in any way.
We are lucky in that the fields around us are just cut for grass, and there are few "serious agriculteurs" round about
