Vipers, oh! heavens, are you sure?

Dear Val
Could you ask your readers if they have any advice to offer me regarding the vipers in our garden. We wonder if anyone knows of ways to encourage them to leave us and go into the adjoining field. We are keeping the grass cut short but I am especially concerned about my young grandchildren when they visit in the summer.
Having just moved to a house near St Antonin I was pleased to hear about Tag on Line as it is a really good source of information. Also, thanks to you we sold some of our carpets!
Best wishes

Val says
Are you sure they are vipers ? When we came 12 years ago we were told by our French neighbours that we had vipers in the garden, we certainly had snakes, massive ones. It turned out they were grass snakes and a western whip, all harmless and were in the stone wall surrounding the property. I am getting more used to snakes since being here and have clutched the odd one or two to the breast when picking up straw and hay for the donkeys.
Seriously if they are vipers has anybody any ideas ?
