The last few days we have been picking field mushrooms in the garden and they are delicious and taste like mushrooms should, not like the mass produced mushrooms. It is a bit like the strawberries they grow on mass in Spain, great big red juicy things but no taste of strawberry, you need French garriguettes for taste, more expensive but worth it.
Another French neighbour [ we really have not that many ] a nice guy but the one without an inside loo [ we speculate] comes home each morning from the woods with bags of girolles which we think he sells to local restaurants.Girolles or chanterelles are a sort of apricot yellow and the woodland variety have a delicious nutty, peppery taste.
