Just come back from my farming duties looking after outside animals. I was getting an armful of straw when a grass snake ''couleuvre'' slipped out and away. This reminded me of a couple of years ago when I picked up an armful of straw and realised in the middle was a couleuvre which I had clutched to my breast. One scream and out it jumped and away, probably more scared than I was.
This morning the story continued in a different vane with me lifting the lid of the nesting box on the hen house to discover wasps nests being made on the underside of the lid. In my panic to dislodge the nests, the lid came down and crowned me and the nests landed in my hair. I ran off followed by angry wasps.
My donkeys where I went next, were very understanding and calmed me down ready to face another happy day.
And as I sit at the computer with the door open I can hear our kestrels chit chattering away. They are definitely nesting here.
I do love this country life.
