You may not be worried about the wealth tax, but a new "health tax" will be introduced next year for taxable pensioners.
If you a pensioner and make a French tax return and are liable to tax, an additional 0.15% will be charged in 2013, rising to 0.3% in 2014.
This is a contribution to the health service which has a deficit of some 13bn euros (the shortfall between health contibutions and the cost of the sante). People who are not retired pay "cotisations" towards the health service and the government feels that better off pensioners should make a contribution.
On the brighter side pensioners aged over 65 may be entitled to a reduction in their tax fonciere. It applies to your principal residence and your "revenu fiscal de reference" (which is shown on your Avis d'impots) should be below 12700 euros for a couple - 10024 for a single taxpayer.
Pensioners aged between 65 and 75 would benefit from a reduction of 100 euros and those aged over 75 may be exempt. It may be worth asking as Taxe fonciere is payable by next weekend.
