A win win situation in Varen

Visitors to the Saturday market may have noticed that since the beginning of March there has been an addition to the usual market stalls; in the ancient mairie a “friperie” has been open offering a wide range of household items and clothing at very attractive prices.

Operated by a group of volunteers for an association called Mains Tendues 82, set up by residents of the commune, the friperie has attracted a lot of interest from locals and other stall holders have seen an increase in the number of people passing through the market.

The items for sale are the result of generous donations made to support refugees housed in the area, notably at Verfeil and now Parisot, but now being sold to help local good causes, such as the village school, older residents where a need is identified and other philanthropic groups operating locally, as well as refugee support.

Already the village school has benefitted with help for the Christmas celebrations and other projects are being explored.

The friperie is open each Saturday morning from 10h – 12h and donations can be delivered on Friday afternoons from 15h – 17h. Good, clean clothes and linen are always welcome as are unwanted household items. People interested in helping can always contact a member of the bureau on Friday or Saturday at these hours, and buyers are always welcome on market day. Mains Tendues 82, making Varen lively and doing good at the same time.

Mains Tendues 82 has also with your help furnished an apartment for a refugee with bed, sofa, kitchen table, chairs, bedding , fridge, kitchen equipment,
