Termites at Monesties

One of the "expertises" we had done when considering the sale of our house was to check for termites. Happily there is no evidence here of these destructive insects, but in the Tarn village of Monestiés, only about 20 kms away the problem is so severe that the maire has ordered an urgent intervention.
The insects live underground and infest wood and hence products used in buildings, causing severe and dangerous degradation to wooden structures. The expert checks we had done are mandatory when selling (or letting) a house and in Monestiés the whole village is now classed as infected. 25000 euros has been made available by the commune to treat the worst buildings, using a high density bait which enables people to remain in their home.
