NO! On Wednesday it was right, and it was contributed by a French person I think. I have had the chat with The Friend about it too! "Nous sommes mercredi" is what the French say.....how about asking one of them? Actually just the same as us: Saturday the seventeenth.....
Val says we have asked "educated French friends" I add the educated as this is what we were told "educated people say." Basically assuming we were not in that group, the French said "what does it matter, what is the fuss about", but agreed with the original dissenter that the following is probably the best way.
Today for example
Nous sommes le samedi dix sept octobre
In the post Sally mentioned I did the date heading but the French reader had no "le" just said
the event was " vendredi 16 octobre"
Now the original dissenter as well as insisting on that to prove we are educated also insists that I do not add a comma, after the samedi and of course samedi does not have a capital letter.
To other readers just learning French and I do the date in French to encourage you, you now know of the many pitfalls! Imagine what educated eyes make of my English!
