Greens too red

The French green party, EELV (Europe Ecologie Les Verts) has split into two, with members of the new  Ecologistes party including EELV's former vice president Jean Vincent Place claiming that the greens are now too ultra left wing. The party withdrew its support for the government and allied itself to the far left Front de gauche.
The new group had over 350 interested people at its inaugural meeting and will seek to join the government coalition in due course.
