T&G councillors' pay rise

The newly elected conseil départmental has voted by 23 to 7 to increase their pay by 23% as a result, they say, of the department's increasing population. Having crossed the threshold of 250000 inhabitants councillors are entitled to a higher rate of pay. Former president (millionaire) Jean Michel Baylet condemned the move at a time when the new councillors were elected on a pledge to cut costs and that council employees had had pay frozen since 2008.
Tarn councillors, par contre, have reduced their indemnities by 8%.
