Another sad anniversary

With the start of World War I exactly 100 years ago we have had many sad occasions to mark. Today (22nd September) is the anniversary of the death of Alain-Fournier, author of one of the most famous books in French literature, Le Grand Meaulnes. The only published work of the writer, it was published in 1913 and has never been out of print. The book depicts the life of a young boy, the son of village schoolteachers, growing up in a very rural area. Very much of its time and written with the same kind of feeling that endears us to "Cider with Rosie" - a nostalgia of rural life; a rite  of passage; first love etc.
