Abbaye de Beaulieu

Before lunch at La Vallée we visited the Abbaye de Beaulieu. Not the first time  we have been to this former Cistercian Abbey set in the valley of the Seye, between Verfeil and Parisot, but we were attracted by the promise of two current expositions, Traits tres noirs, inspired by the works of Karl Otto Gotz, with lithographs often in black and white recalling the Pierre Soulages works exhibited at Rodez and L'homme premier an exhibition of photographs and installations of wood and stone sculptures, both man made and natural, by Alain Volut. All the works refer to life and traditions in the Dogon area of western Mali and the integration of mankind in his surrounds. Given our interest in Mali through Via Sahel this proved fascinating, but the quality of the photographs and the imagery of the natural materials is equally appealing to all. The two expositions are on until the start of October. Entry 5.50 euros to both and the beautiful abbey buildings.
