Reserve Africaine de Sigean

Anyone driving into Spain via Perpignan cannot have failed to notice the panels advertising this reserve. With nearly 4000 wild animals on 300 hectares the attraction receives over 300000 visitors each year. But the recent flooding in the area has caused the death of several animals and widespread damage to infrastructure. Many other localities in that area have also been damaged, but the owners are worried that the work needed to repair dykes will take too long for local authorities to carry out. The park has been flooded on several occasions in the last 20 years and is now considering a move to the other side of the Pyrenees into Spain.
