If the donation passed via TAG, I'd guess the charity's receipt would not be in a form which entitled the original giver to the tax credit - though TAG might be able to claim the credit (if registered as a taxpayer), and make further donations itself.
If the above helps the case for advertisers donating to charities direct, then this would have to be on the basis of trust, to save you the hassle of asking for sight of the receipt to prove that the promised donation had not slipped the advertiser's mind.

Val says I like that idea about the tax credit. We give 20 euros a month to Sautou and have just had a form from them at the end of the year to claim back our tax credit.
I personally like the idea of the advertiser sending the cheque direct to the charity, but have to be a bit worried as more often than not I have to politely chase up people who have promised money for a mention. It is so easy to forget. [ infact now the girls have left, chasing up money is on my mind] ''Me thinks'' would it work if the cheque for the charity was sent to me and I sent it to the charity saying who each cheque was from ?
