In answer to Selena Purssey’s question, the French term is épi de faîtage and if you Google épi de faîtage zinc you will find some suppliers.
On the other hand the potter in Caylus, Poterie de la Hulotte makes some very special stoneware finials and it is now the son who is continuing to make the same styles as his late father made for many years, one of which we put on an outbuilding of our house in England about 12 years ago.
