The boys on Christmas Eve
Thank you Laura and Sid for spending time on Christmas Eve with the boys and letting me know what a good time they are having.
For everyone who helped with that evening.. great stuff. Laura and Sid of course are the prime movers.
They have won the TAG humanitarians of the year award.
We have had a lovely meal and are slightly worse for wear with Christmas spirit,
Walked the dogs on the beach and lost Malc who fell and disappeared down a hole.
Met some English people who live in Gerona and with their local Christian church are going to support refugees. We said we would talk tomorrow.( kindred spirits I think)

Dell power supply needed..
Hi Val,
Yesterday I got a Dell portable computer to be reinstalled for the guests at Rehoboth. But unfortunately there is no power supply with. And Dell uses a different connector compared to other computers. So if someone still has a spare power supply for this Dell and wants to give it away? Please call me first if you want to pop in, most of the coming days my shop is closed.

TAG in Spain
Four days in our favourite dog hotel in Spain. Arrived to be met by an English couple with two little dogs in their car. Their faces fell when they saw bouncy Bonny and Eldo and they said" are you staying here?"
I was quick to reassure them although we were, the dogs were very friendly.
Trouble is they said " we have two scrappers who are not at all friendly"
Good start we thought!
Our friend Jill is with us and we have had a bracing walk across the beach and up to the break water. Although sunny it is very windy.
Jill is " made up" as she was hoping to start the night with Hendricks gin and a special tonic with cucumber, a knock out drink she tells us.
I can see her and Malc under the table by ten!! Self righteous or no fun me, sticks always to a glass of red wine. I am usually the driver but perhaps it will be two glasses tonight when I can also topple straight into bed.
Wherever you are, whoever you are with have a brilliant Christmas Eve and enjoy yourselves.

No time for TAG, what no time for TAG?
An early start as we drive off for 4 days in Spain. The weather forecast is good, so relaxing " au bord de la mer" is what we will be doing.
My ipad will be under my arm so I can write news when we arrive at Llafranc.

Home life left behind
Shahzeb from Pakinstan loves to tell me about himself and his family. A student at University, his family has a chicken farm. The first picture is his little sister, right, his father.
Shazeb has in a short time become the leader of the group. This afternoon he took one of the guys in a taxi for a medical in Montauban, being trusted to perform this task.
Just young men like ours, many with skills and intelligence I wish more people had.

Up at Rehoboth with lots of photo opportunities
Diyako from Iran wanted this photo for his phone, within minutes he had 54 likes from his friends.
I am working an afternoon shift with Sarah. She has just taken 3 to the village to put money in their phones. We have given each young man 10 euros just so that they all can keep in touch with family and friends, so important to them.
The consensus between the young men and us is that they want us to use the affectionate term boys, so boys it can be again.
Val says again I see the heading he has given the photo is " Merciful angel" and from his friends he has 96 likes.
I could go viral... but in Iran!
Diyako has followers, fellow Christians who have followed his flight from Iran, being persecuted and shot numerous times. 156 friends now like that he is safe and being cared for
The boys appreciate us all caring for them after the treatment they have received.

Notorious Madame dies
Recent celebrity cases of "proxénèté" (procurement or, more vulgarly, pimping) made headlines, though not necessarily much condemnation. But back in the 1970's Fernande Grudet set up high class brothels in Paris, which were frequented by underworld, spies, police chiefs and high ranking officials and politicians. Madame Claude, as she was known, chose her girls with care, insisted on plastic surgery where necessary and took 25% of their earnings. Spells in prison did not reduce her enthusiasm for her profession, though changes to the laws on prostitution and demands by the tax authorities eventually led her to flee to the USA. She died this week aged 92, her personality having been immortalised for making "le vice joli" in numerous films of the period.

Christmas at Entre Nous
Six good friends met at the festively decorated restaurant " Entre Nous" in the Rue de la Pelisserie in St. Antonin to continue our Christmas celebrations with a traditional Christmas dinner.
No need to tell you what we eat, it was a Christmas meal, but it was excellent. Plenty to eat, good service, crackers pulled, other happy dinners. Who could ask for more?
A family there I had met up at Rehoboth whose girls told me they enjoyed going up and playing football with the young men.
A very convivial evening continuing on with the Christmas spirit, a couple of our friends kindly gave me an envelope with a good donation for Rehoboth. A donation which Malc and I really appreciate.
For the restaurant out of 5, certainly on this performance 5.

Changing the petanque pitch to a car park in St. Antonin
Hi Val,
you probably remember a few weeks ago about the rumour I had heard about the above. You mentioned you would find out if it was true from a Council member friend . I know you were shocked as I was if this indeed was true. A beautiful medieval village being altered on the main frontage of the river where people love to walk and the locals play petanque/Boules. Then alongside you can also look at that horrible illuminated sign that almost appeared overnight along with a partner at the entrance to the Halle. I should have realised that when the storm damage to the river wall alongside the open area was not repaired for the Summer that there were problems. I wonder what the lovely group of Petanque players feel about this plan and was anybody consulted about the new plan. All this is now confirmed in the latest December edition of the St Antonin magazine. I hope you can look at this as soon as possible ,although I know you are very busy.
Have a Happy and Merry Christmas both,
xx Max and Jacqui,
Val says what a tragic move that would be. I mentioned it to someone tonight who said " but we are very short of car parking spaces! " I think I jokingly said " philistine" and I do agree totally about the sign being out of place in a medieval village.
Anyone know anymore?
Michelle says
Criminal!it is not just because of aesthetics, petanque is a part of what makes up real French social life especially in the South. Short of parking spaces! Only on market day. Plenty of spaces over the bridge if people are actually willing to walk 5 minutes

Good old Tudor
Hi Val and Malc
A tip for cheap art material...use acrylic .. It can be v.cheap in
supermarkets and then u can paint on any painted boxes, like what I done on
tv box, also u can paint on top of old work eg if u make a mistake...It will
paint on virtually any material ..old newspaper, old wallpaper ,slate
,tiles, wood.. And it's water based so easy to clean, don't need
brushes... Use fingers small bits of plastic/card or anything that resembles
a spatula. If u dilute with lots of water it can be used like watercolour
paint.
Keep painting
Tudor

Father Christmas and his fairies have been today
A Christmas fairy came at lunchtime and left 50 euros in our post box.
Father Christmas came early to us this afternoon with a donation of 500 euros.
Three people have said they are sending cheques.
The Christmas spirit is certainly amongst us and the hearts of all who donate will be happier and lighter celebrating their kindness and caring for others.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
Throughout A Christmas Carol the personality of Ebenezer Scrooge shifts from a man who only cares about himself and his wealth to a man who cares about others. This change in personality is due to the messages of all four visiting ghosts. The first ghost, the ghost of Jacob Marley, gave Scrooge the initial warning of how a wasted life of greed, spite and selfishness towards others, such as shady business practices, meagre wages, long work hours, and unreasonable punishment, will result in an agonizing afterlife full of unending torment; constantly suffering and never resting. The Ghost of Christmas Past reminds Scrooge of how kind he used to be and makes him realize how much he’s changed since then. It reminded Scrooge of the joy he once felt and could spread to others, such as his sister or wife. The Ghost of Christmas Present showed him the abundance of society and how it was not properly distributed amongst the social classes. Want and Ignorance appear to show that if the people are not taken care of properly, then the gap between the classes and the anger in society will grow. Finally, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows what Scrooge’s fate is; however, Scrooge questions if it was Christmas yet to come, or Christmas of what could be. This final encounter really showed Scrooge that in order for others to care about someone, that person must first care about others.

Paper work brought up to date
Finally had time to sort out and post off cheques
100 euros to Cancer Support, part of a years subscription to an advert on TAG, another 40 euros for the refugees.
35 euros to Liberte des Anes, for a 3 month advert
20 euros to Truffe et moustache, simply for some advice which we would have given freely.
Malc keeps the accounts, but finding time is not easy.

The pot is empty but I am hoping for more
Hi Val
Add to the list a paper cutter for cutting watercolor paper to make cards and for cutting cardboard to make inexpensive supports for painting with acrylic paint if we get any acrylic paint donated as well. Basically any art materials that people have to give could be used.
Also if you have a budget to reimburse me I could pick up some things..Foire Fouille at Villefranche has very inexpensive art materials but even the supermakets have some basic things.love Jeannine
Val says laughing ... a budget ... if only. Let us try to get donated material first and then if I can raise funds we can then buy. At the moment it is getting money in to the coffers, top priority.
